Generic terms like "the code" and "the war" should be an alert for anyone
that there's bollix about. What "the code" would they mean, exactly?
Probably someone confused about Enigma.

As for "the war," there was no guarantee that the isolationist-beholden FDR
would have declared war on Germany in the event the Japanese attacked the
United States. This we do know because we have documentation of Churchill
trying to get a straight answer if not a commitment out of FDR to declare
war on Germany if Japan attacked X, Y, or Z. Furthermore, the attack on
Pearl did bring the U.S. into "the war" but in the Pacific. Hitler declared
war on the United States first, forcing FDR's hand.

Then it became "the war."

Churchill had his hands quite full with the Germans and wouldn't have wasted
his time trying to eavesdrop on the Japanese in any case. Besides, they kept
it so close to the vest they didn't even tell the Germans. Speculation in
historical matters doesn't make fact; it enters into the realm of alternate
history -- and yes, the WinstonChurchill.org is always the first and only
place to go to debunk these myths.
