An old London friend of mine, lifetime Labour, once observed that the 
practices of certain Labour-run London councils did indeed remind her of 
the Gestapo.( I will omit any references to the U.S. Internal Revenue 
Service.)

We live in the age of 24/7 news bites. WSC, fortunately for him, didn't 
have to guard his every word, only his public ones--which he very carefully 
prepared.
