As I read the official biography companion volumes, It seemed that despatches
could be a matter or hours to weeks, depending on if he had access to telegraph
(which he on occasion did) or if he had to mail them (which most often he did).
The interesting thing I saw was how long it took the papers to publish the
despatches once they had them. Often that too, was weeks.
