This seems to happen when there are unresolvable SIDs int he client's token (e.g., historical SIDs). Try the following undocumented feature: % svccfg -s idmap setprop config/unresolvable_sid_mapping = boolean: true % svcadm refresh idmap Then try accessing your shares again.
