Hi Ross,

Thanks for VSS !!

I'm already able to specify my permission on file when they are already
created, but I'd like these files had proper permission when I create them.
My proprietary for files is the appliance's root user
I may have something wrong in my config ... but what ?

There is lot of strange thing, I've (and I know that I should not ;D) used the
shell on the appliance and smbadm give me this :

amberroad# smbadm show -m -p administrators
administrators (Members can fully administer the computer/domain)
        SID: S-1-5-32-544
        Privileges:
                SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege: On
                SeBackupPrivilege: Off
                SeRestorePrivilege: Off
        Members:
                DOMAIN\rchatelain
                DOMAIN\Administrateur

But nothing show in the mmc in the localgroup administrators....

VSS / Previous Versions is something I'm after too. So far all I've
heard is that Sun have gotten a proof of concept working, but it's too
early to even estimate a release date for that feature.

I don't know about managing shares via MMC, with many CIFS appliances
you have to do the management via the devices actual console. I don't
think this is a permissions thing, it's more a case of functionality
that is not yet implemented. I do know that the appliances are not
based on the very latest OpenSolaris, so it may well be possible to do
some things with OpenSolaris that are not yet possible with the
storage appliance.

I haven't looked into setting permissions on root shares yet I'm
afraid. I did spot that it wasn't possible to access these
permissions through explorer, and that there was a permissions tab on
the appliance for configuring shares, but didn't check to make sure
that I could configure domain user permissions there.

I think you will find that you need to set the permissions for the
root share on the appliance GUI itself, and then after that you
should be able to use Windows Explorer to configure permissions for
files and folders stored within it.
