Hi Will,

The SS7000 appliance kit is the customised OpenSolaris image that runs
on the Sun Storage 7000 products (NAS box).

You can run the SS7000 appliance kit in VirtualBox as I am doing to
simulate/test/demo the storage appliance.

So you can call the SS7000 appliance kit a appliantized/productized
implementation of OpenSolaris.

They are obviously doing something quite different because this works
perfectly on OpenSolaris 2009.06

I have followed this up with a feedback alias for the appliance kit and
can see what comes of that.

I will probably not consume your time further as they maybe doing
something quite customised.

Thanks for the offer to help though.

Hi Malcolm,

We do customize the SS7000 software where appropriate, but in most areas (including Kerberos, CIFS, and idmap), we rely on the same system software libraries as OpenSolaris. We shouldn't have any different functionality in this area, so there's likely a discrepancy in the system configuration.

As Will suggested, a network capture of both the domain join and the failed idmap lookup should help us troubleshoot. You may also want to gather a support bundle, which is a bundle of diagnostic information including service and system logs. To gather a support bundle, run the `akbundle` command:

# akbundle
Generating bundle for: ak.261c70c3-45b0-c02a-a8ea-ec6b2874c633
...
#

Once that command finishes, you'll find the support bundle in /var/ak/bundles. You can use supportfiles.sun.com to upload the bundle and we'll take a look.
