A teenage friend of mine is trying to set up a backup server for the family. 
He's using an older machine with fine I/O but a 100 Mbps Ethernet. Since the 
machines are mostly wireless, that shouldn't be a limiting factor.

But we were surprised to find that even on a direct Ethernet connection we're 
not getting more than about 50 Mbps when copying a big file to the server. The 
client is Windows. The server is 2009.6, using the ZFS smb server.

What speeds should we see? Is it reasonable to expect wire speed? Are there any 
tuning knobs? Would Samba be better?
