What OS version is this system running?
Lol, I should have read the error literally :)
You made it obvious...
Somehow the perms on /mypool got mangled! Which prompted to get after
a long overdue review of the new acl's (ok I needed it working like now
so I ran chmod +rx /mypool).
Do you guys know of any good primers for me to get my feet wet on how
to manage these correctly?
If you're managing ACLs from a Windows desktop, you can follow
what's available for Windows (books, msdn, technet etc).
On the Solaris side, Mark blogs about ZFS and ACls, and provides
good guidance and examples: http://blogs.sun.com/marks.

I gave a CIFS presentation a while ago that had some information
on this. There's a link to the slides and a video of the presentation
