Alan & Natalie, Thank you both very much for your help. To recapitulate to use both Likewise and Solaris CIFS you must bind Solaris CIFS before binding Likewise. Also, if you are binding Solaris CIFS (irrespective of Likewise) to a Win2K8 SP2 Active Directory you must upgrade to OpenSolaris build snv_119 or later.
