When I tried to join our Windows 2003 domain w/ the command, smbadm join -u ouliakkdomainadmin MYDOMAIN
It failed w/, failed to join MYDOMAIN: UNSUCCESSFUL >From the logs, 33:08 nas3 smbd[3089]: [ID 702911 daemon.debug] msdcsLookupADS: dc1.mydomain.local [10.197.0.1] 33:08 nas3 smbd[3089]: [ID 135458 daemon.debug] smbrdr: trying port 445 33:08 nas3 smbd[3089]: [ID 508689 daemon.debug] smbrdr: connected on port 445 33:08 nas3 smbd[3089]: [ID 434374 daemon.debug] smbrdr: connected port 445 33:25 nas3 smbd[3089]: [ID 213798 daemon.error] smb_krb5_setpwd: Result: (-39152394) 33:25 nas3 smbd[3089]: [ID 702911 daemon.notice] Failed to set machine password. 33:25 nas3 smbd[3089]: [ID 871254 daemon.error] smbd: failed joining MYDOMAIN (UNSUCCESSFUL) No matter what I tried, I couldn't join the domain. The ouliakkdomainadmin account is in an OU 3 levels deep. So while trying things out, I created a new account and put it in the "Users" OU. Using smbadm w/ the new account succeeded in joining to the domain. I'm glad I was able to get it working, but I'm hoping someone could shed a little light as to what might be happening? It's reproducible, and I'm happy to work w/ whomever is interested in looking at this w/ me.
