Reflection: Apa yang pemerintah Indonesia akan lakukan apabila Malaysia tidak selektif dalam mengdeportasi tenaga kerja asing [TKI]?
Malaysia Must be Selective in Deporting Workers Tuesday, 27 March, 2007 | 16:38 WIB TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Manpower and Transmigration Minister Erman Suparno asked the Malaysian Prime Minister to legalize foreign workers who work there before carrying out deportation. Erman's statement is regarding Malaysia's plan to deport half of the foreign workers including Indonesian workers. "There must be classification between foreign workers who are involved in crime and those who aren't," said Erman, Jakarta, Thursday (27/3). For workers who are not involved in crimes, Malaysia should be able to ease administration. Therefore, workers who were previously illegal become legal and it is not necessary to deport them. So deportation is only applied to workers who are involved in crimes. According to Erman, he will meet Malaysia's Home Affairs Minister by the end of this month to talk about foreign workers deportation. "I already scheduled the time between 29 and 30 March to go there," he said. The idea of the meeting came from Malaysia's Prime Minister. While responding to the Foreign Workers Bill which will be enacted in Malaysia in the near future, Erman said the bill is still at the discourse level, and has not yet reached discussion level. "I already talked with the Prime Minister about this matter," he said. Erman hoped, after the bill is passed it will not sacrifice workers' rights. This is because substantially, the new workers' decree is potentially to limit foreign workers including those from Indonesia.
