TEMPO Interactive, Semarang:As a sign of their opposition toward Israel's
attack on the Gaza Strip in Palestine, scores of students in Semarang are
raiding buildings containing foreigners in the city. From the Simpang Lima
traffic circle, the Sultan Agung Islamic University students headed for the
Ciputra Hotel, Semarang. However, they were blocked by the police and the
hotel's security guards, resulting in a clash.

"The United Nations should immediately end Israel's acts instead of supporting
it," said one student, Muhammad.

In Surakarta, the Central Java Police chief, Ins. Gen. Alex Bambang Riatmojo,
has asked demonstrators not to violate other people's rights. "They are
demonstrating on behalf of human rights, but they violate other people's
rights, like disturbing people who use the street," he said. Nevertheless, Alex
affirmed that he will not restrict or ban demonstrations in Central Java.
