Atheists Gather to Celebrate ... Atheism In what is believed to be the largest gathering of atheists in the world, 2,000 non- (or anti-) believers descended on Melbourne, Australia, to "celebrate their lack of religious belief." "They plan to issue a statement on what they say are the negative effects of religion on society," the BBC reported, but attendees are being urged to avoid what many atheists consider a major problem with believers: missionary zeal in the promotion of their message. The Global Atheist Convention as the event is called will feature a talk centered on Islam and terrorism by renowned atheist and bestselling author Richard Dawkins.
