April 14, 2010 Trade Unionists from 21 countries to celebrate May Day in Cuba William Fernández TO date, more than 500 trade union workers from 21 countries have confirmed their presence at the central May Day activities in Cuba, to reaffirm their solidarity with the Revolution. Raymundo Navarro, member of the national secretariat of the Central Organization of Cuban Trade Unions (CTC), said that the visitors will complete an extensive program of activities starting on April 26, including visits to centers of historic, economic, cultural, and social interest in various provinces. They will also participate in the traditional Solidarity with Cuba Conference and the event marking the 65th anniversary of the Americas region of the World Federation of Trade Unions. During their visit to Cuba, they will also learn about the case of the five Cuban heroes imprisoned in the United States since 1998 for fighting terrorism. Ermela García, also from the CTC national secretariat, reiterated that on May Day the Cuban people will show the world their unity with the Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and President Raúl Castro. To celebrate the anniversary, workers' collectives will promote initiatives related to efficiency, energy savings, and combating indiscipline and illegal activites. (AIN)
