May 13, 2010 Meeting between Fidel and Hemingway commemorated CELEBRATIONS for the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and Ernest Hemingway began yesterday in Cojímar, the Havana neighborhood that provided the inspiration for the U.S. author's book The Old Man and the Sea. The commemoration event began with an exhibition including children's drawings, objets d'art with a maritime theme donated by residents, and photographs and allegorical paintings of the Nobel Prizewinner and his relationship with this neighborhood, located in the eastern part of the Cuban capital. Inaury Portuondo, a specialist in museology, gave the opening speech and affirmed that through his work, the U.S. writer honored the poor fishermen and old sea dogs of this community.
