Havana. June 9, 2010 Cuba has given us much more than any other country . Affirms president of Botswana, paying tribute to the martyrs Aida Calviac Mora "THERE are many countries that donate millions of dollars, but in terms of proportions, Cuba has given us much more than any other country," affirmed Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, president of the Republic of Botswana, who laid a wreath at the Pantheon to those who died defending the homeland at Havana's Colón cemetery. After paying tribute to Cuban martyrs who died in the struggle for national liberation or on internationalist missions, Khama highlighted the role of the latter in the defeat of the apartheid regime in southern Africa. "I believe that places such as this are very important for remembering those who have lost their lives, as a testimony to the maximum sacrifice. On our continent, we truly appreciate what the Cuban people have done to achieve stability and independence in our region," said the African statesman. He also described the current bilateral relations of cooperation as "exceptional." "I am very happy to be here so as to express my gratitude to the president and people of Cuba for what they are doing, not only for us but for many other countries," he concluded. Accompanying the dignitary were Deputy Foreign Minister Marcos Rodríguez Costa and Brigade General Delsa Esther Puebla, who explained the special attention we pay to the memory of our martyrs.
