N Sumatra`s FPI warns against "resurgent communism" Monday, July 5, 2010 23:52 WIB | National | | Viewed 229 time(s) Medan (ANTARA News) - The North Sumatra chapter of the Islam Defenders` Front (FPI) staged a rally here Monday to warn the public against "resurgent communism" in the community, including in the executive and legislative branches of government. Tens of FPI members at their rally outside the North Sumatra Provincial Legislative Council building here listened to speakers who expressed fear about "communist movements that are beginning openly to spread their views and ideology among the people." "This condition is creating anxiety among various elements of the nation so that there is need for a real movement to counter this resurgent communism," Firman, one of the demonstrators` spokeksmen, said. "Supporters of communism are now beginning to come to the surface to threaten Indonesia`s integrity. It is a menace all elements of the nations must fight," he said. The demonstrators therefore demanded that the government and the law enforcing agenecies firmly implement and uphold Law No 27 of 1999 and Article 107 of the Penal Code that forbid the dissemination and development of communist teachings, marxism and lenimism in all their forms and manifestations, and "stamp them out down to their roots." The vice chairman of the North Sumatra Legislatice Council, Sigit Pramono Asri, who met the FPI crowd, said he also firmly opposed the revival of communism in Indonesia. He called on the public to report to the law enforcing agencies any sign of communist or communist-oriented activity they noticed happening any where in the province.
