Just so no one is surprised, there is a new FLag Settings->Preferences for "Auto rotate for ffmpeg media". The default is to do this rotation so if in the past you loaded cell phone media and it was off by 90 or 180 degrees, it will now be automatically rotated in the display AND the render. If you do not want this behavior, change the Preference flag.
See forum topic on "Rotation Meta Data usage in viewer/compositor". The reason this was implemented after all is to keep up with the smart phones/go pro usage (and maybe drones, but I do not know for sure).
