Andrew, also a single code line change (NOT debug/fprintf stuff) was needed
in cinelerra's ffmpeg.C file  -- line 606  "if ( ret == AVERROR(EAGAIN) &&
!frame ) continue; ".  The Freelancer had worked with ffmpeg before and
that is what it took to get this mod -- ffmpeg is just such a big
complicated program.
