I don't think you should build as root, it is not needed and will make
all produced files root-accessible only. The only step where root is
needed (and safer, use sudo instead of logging in as root), is
the ./blds/bld_prepare.sh <os> step, because that installs new software
on the machine.

I always build as normal user.
