Hi,
I am trying to set up correct video format settings
for ouput to be suitable for standard 4/3 PAL TV.
The problem is that even I choose 720/576 canvas size
and 4:3 aspect ratio, the output seems to be of proper
size and aspect (checked with tcprobe), but the video
has 2 horizontal black bars (top and bottom) like in
16:9 video displayed on 4/3 TV.
Any ideas why this happens. Maybe I use some incorrect
settings?

Emil
I have the same thing going on. I am also in PAL zone but I'm not so
sure that it's related to that. I have a very old dv camera (panasonic
nv-ds1). I have not troubleshooted this until now - but have just
tried this:
When I look through the digital viewfinder (it's that old) when the
camera is in record mode I get a full edge-to-edge picture. When I go
into playback mode the camera is showing black bars on the top on the
bottom. I suspect your problem might also be at camera level.
OMG - I just cracked it! The camera will not record 16bit sound and
full screen. I had to move to 12-bit sound and the black bars all
disappeared. I've gotta replace this relic.
Hope you have just as easy time of solving this.
thanks for asking the question.
