Hey

There are my 3 cents on cinelerra usability:

1) I had no problem with UI - in general. Maybe it is not intuitive, but
a friend of mine started NLE with some profi-soft (adobe?) and told me
that without 1h reading manual! No NLE can be intuitive. Sine i learnt
cinelerra i an very happy with keybouard and mouse controll!

Some features like - panning and zooming - found difficult to control
and unfortunately giving to some extend ugly output - thus i do not use
them. Huge problem is fader in 2.0 but i use some patch which makes it
usable again (like in C1.2). The only problem with UI which really
causes headache is that i can sometimes run the project into "buggy"
state where e.g. the timeline does not correspond to compositor picture,
black frame in between "cuts" appear etc. and other funny effects
appear. This is my experience from - c.a 200-300h on C1.2 and C2 in last
15month.

2) The most annoying in cinerella are features that do not work or work
so that using is annoying/useless. Most of input/ouput, some effects
(e.g. motion)!
Funny thing - i found that even some mp3 (vbitrate?) tracks are wrongly
drawn on timeline - since then i use wav-only. I do not need C2 to
import any format - there is more than enough possibilities to convert
before editing. But I want that import always works in 100%! Recently there is
even some funny fourcc problem with DV/mov when using C2 and kino (kino
cant open C2 mov/dv).

To render properly i have to do pipe with some - found on the net -
"magic" command. Nothing!!! else gave me PAL/DVD with correct
interlacing.
The mplex has to be done externally which is also annoyance!
I definitely need one button render - even to more that one format!
The best solution would be batch rendering in the form
"cinelerra proj.xml -render -video -all |ffmpeg ...." - but funny is that cinelerra batch rendering requires using gui for making some setting (= pure nonsense).

3) Recording in C2 never worked for me - but kino/dvgrab make it more than
good. I would remove recording from C2-cv.

4) Themes - i do not understand why default c2 is bad? It is dark -
which is importand. I miss however kind of fullscreen mode with
non-overlapping windows - see blender!! I hate window frames which steal
my screeen pixels...

Concluding - C2 probably does not need rewriting - which could be
extremly painfull, but sort of cleaning. Get rid of all not working things
(most of in/out, etc etc..). No new themes/features but solid stable
existing features.

the best
