I didn't ask the IT guy at school the specifics on why the drives were failing, and most of the students don't know anything technical about computers, but basically they're drives became unreadable and had to be replaced (reformatting wouldn't solve it) so I guess the disk crashed.

I'm really happy with my Samsung so far. I still have three Maxtor HDD's inside my case.
