It's possible.

LaTeX produces better output.

I don't agree.

Is \chapter{SHORT CONTENTS} so complicated in comparison with:

@chapter SHORT CONTENTS ?

You cannot judge latex markup based on the job done by texi2latex
script.

I'd like to show you output of latex2texi script, but it does not exist
'cause it is probably not easy to convert latex stuff to texi 'cause
latex supports more tex stuff.

Besides that, my preference for latex is not due to capability to handle
math-formulas - I did only classical books with it.

otoh, who knows what will future bring - maybe you'll have to write
formulas explaining conversion from one color space to another :-)

Moreover, I told you about LyX (LaTeX front-end) which makes writing
even more easy - for simple layout there is almost no need to use
latex-code for tweaking the output.

New LyX (1.4.x) has option for Change tracking
(http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/NewInLyX14#toc3)

which makes collaboration very snappy.

From your emails and talk on IRC it looks you are also not familiar with
texinfo format, so it means that both of us should learn new markup for
working on cinelerra which makes me not so enthusiastic to work on it -
I won't use texinfo for any other project 'cause lyx/latex are
satisfying all my typesetting needs since '99.

What is your main objective against lyx/latex ?

My pros are:

- superior typesetting & pdf output
- runs on multi-platforms and used by large community
- easy to use front-end (lyx) with collaboration feature which makes it
easy for people to join the team

Sincerely,
Gour
