 I get that, too.  So getting a realistic preview of the edits
is impossible.  That was in fact a problem with DV, too, if the
machine was too slow to play DV at full framerate and had barely
fast enough I/O to read DV files.

 Edits should have "preroll" that could force Cinelerra to start
decoding 1/2 second before the edit, or from the last keyframe 
before the edit.
