Hi all,

I think that Cinelerra's DV playback (DV1394) function may have a bug.
If I choose DV 1394 as Video Driver in the Preferences menu(*), the DV
output to an HD/DVD recorder is fine, except for anything (close to)
black - these parts seem to be recognized as 'empty', devoid of video
information. As a result, these dark areas show the last bit of valid
information. This severely affects things such as fades and other
effects, but also any normal black areas, makes the DV export virtually
useless.

*: The other two options (raw DV and ieee16883) don't seem to work at
all.

I have a picture showing this effect here:
http://www.linetec.nl/unrel/black_messed_up.png

The three blocky spots where black areas should be are clearly visible.
This can be somewhat circumvented by increasing luminances to 10%
minimum, but this is not a real solution of course.

Is this a bug? Or did I do something wrong? By the way, this problem has
always existed to my knowledge, but I simply resorted to kino for DV
export; the latest version of Kino, however, doesn't seem capable any
more to export DV to devices without recognized AV/C control, and the
HD/DVD recorder isn't recognized - but I'll post that problem to the
Kino mailing list.
So basically, I'm stuck without a means of easily exporting DV to the
HD/DVD recorder, which is a bit of a nuisance.

Regards,

Richard Rasker
