On one of my systems with working capture (dvgrab), the device is /dev/dv1394. That is the device node and not a directory. You can test if cinelerra is the problem by trying dvgrab to see if it captures better than the internal cinelerra capture. There are some updates to the dvgrab code that we should integrate at some point.
