it couldn't be simpler .. that was it, i have never noticed this button
should the option not be inversed -- switch on in stead of stop
when this is a known problem with alsa
why does the 'playback locks up' not switch on by default when one
changes to alsa ?

try going to Settings --> Preferences --> Playback and click on the
"Stop playback locks up" checkbox (This checkbox is shown only if you
set ALSA as audio driver).

PS:
The sentence "Stop playback locks up" defines an option (checkbox).
It makes me wonder:
1. When a software that locks up when playback is stopped can be
welcome. (is it really an option?)
2. If the sentence structure sounds weird (and thus not immediately
understandable) only to one Italian person.
