Dough,

I found
http://linuxcommand.org/index.php
extremely useful.

I liked experimenting with the command line and then checking the
results with the Graphical Interface.
On my Ubuntu Edgy I can see my .bcast by opening my home folder with the
usual File Browser, going to View and selecting "Show Hidden Files".

.bcast is a (hidden) directory in your home directory that contains
configuration/profile files. It's named after Broadcast2000, the
ancestor of Cinelerra.
It contains index files (.idx), table of content files (.toc) and
configuration files (.rc, abbreviating "run commands") that are files
that contain startup information for a command.
If you delete the ~/.bcast folder, Cinelerra will recreate it with
default settings.

Enjoy Cinelerra!
(She is full of mystery and nice surprises!) ;-)
Raffaella
