That worked. So - Kevin - I can now confirm that the svn 1018 commit
fixed all -PIC related build problems for me.
Thanks for the mmx suggestion Christian - I guess that should have been
obvious from the errors. It's just that a week ago I didn't need this
flag and now I do. I am puzzled as to what could have changed (and it
isn't Kevin's commit). I suppose it is possible that in the course of
fixing build problems some time back I had changed a file somewhere and
then the original got re-instated when I downloaded svn 1018.
Other than that I am curious whether disabling mmx is costing me
anything in terms of optimisations.
Anyway thanks also to Daniel for the suggestion. But anyone following
the thread should be aware there is a compatibility problem with ffmpeg
versions since August 2006. Hopefully Kevin's commit means that more
people can now build using the internal ffmpeg and not have to worry
about this issue.
