How funny! I suggested that because I was not aware of the power of the mute curve. Mute curve is a toggle: it can be only on or off. Fade curve has intermediate values. The first is better for dissolve transitions, the second for sudden changes. Fade curve and mute curve are both easily changed and undone. Both curves can be made visible using the View menu. Now I suggest a combination of both.
