I cannot solve the problem,
however there is a little unix trick
 so at least you don't need to log off:

as long as you can open a terminal window,
 you can find cinelerra's process number by typing

"ps -u <your-username>"

which gives you a list of all your processes.
once you spot cinelerra's process number you can kill it by

"kill <number>"
