I think that sounds fine, but it isn´t te point here, at least that´s not
what I was talking about, what I meant was, the VIDEO EDITING in a computer
was invented and from there, there was a path to follow, that has nothing to
do with freedom, this is WORK I mean an editor is a guy that wants to edit
FAST, and cinelerra has a SLOW general workflow, I used cinelerra for a YEAR
working with a TV show, and I have to say, the system works generally FINE,
cinelerra seems VERY STABLE (working .DV format based ALWAYS) in the same
computer cinelerra works best than premiere, but THE USER (myself) has to do
MORE in the same time, so the time gained in one way is lost in the other.
if you want to make an editing and apply effects, you must do ALL AT THE
SAME TIME in cinelerra, because it hasn´t METACLIPS, in premiere you make
your editing, then aply a filter to the METACLIP (sequence), and you can
keep editing INSIDE the metaclip, or maybe go to the level UP and manage all
that layers as a single clip, in cinelerra you must apply effects per clip,
and if you want to SHARE effects between clips, must be in the same track,
THAT TAKES MORE EDITING TIME!!!
Cinelerra works faster than premiere en audioFX (no cuestion about that),
but if you want more control of an audio in the timeline, just rigth click,
and the software opens an STANDALONE AUDIO SOFTWARE (audition, formerly
soundforge) with that audio, then make a professional editing (you can have
a editing deparment and a sound department, linux would work A LOT BETTER
that kind of features)
so, why do you think that the video editing is going to be REINVENDED by
you? do you have some EXTRAODINARY and SECRET way of doing things? let me
help in some way, but if you don´t, let me tell you, in more than 20 years
many companies have spend MILLIONS in doing things in some way, some have
dessapeared and some have remain, you can call it a "natural selection" and
the USER defines who lives and who dies (buying), why is this the ONLY app
that is so renuent to accept the user, when in terms of video editing THE
EDITOR know more than you how to EDIT.
Cinelerra is based in some incredible ideas... video editor with masks ,
fast system response, renderfarm capabilities,a fast subtitler, I mean,
dude, THIS IS A GREAT IDEA (in 2000), but why you think that editors works
in that same way today? editors needs moe things year after year.
there are GREAT ideas out there, the editors EMBRACE great ideas, if the
soft is good and fits in our way of doing things or maybe is different but
FASTER, we use it but cinelerra unfortunately takes MORE EDITOR´s TIME, and
that means MONEY sometimes (editor´s).
sorry If i sound like a marketing department dude, hehehe, but analyze other
apps like blender, and the succes is because fits industry standards, I was
a softimage/3dMAX animator, when i met blender, it was different but the
general UI was FASTER, and we can do more in less time, who cared about
external render or raytracing in 2003? for model-edit-render there wasn´t
anything like it, and the USERS took it, and developers LISTENED, actually
founded ORANGE project, so they can make an openmovie calling USERS to
participate (now they are working in hairy animals), and they realize what
tools the user cculd need. do you SEE why blender becomes a success? because
the developers know that the user needs comes first, so in the past 4 years
how many NEW users has blender3d and cinelerra ? wich of those in threir
respective areas are more industry accepted?
how many studios changed finalcut and premiere for cinelerra?
how many studios changed 3dmax or maya for blender3D?
I repeat: CINELERRA is GREAT for many thing, but not for all, and maybe tiny
features could change it ALL, but i don´t see anyone worried about those
tiny things. Prove me wrong PLEASE because i work with WINXP based systems
(I am tech support), and I see that users must reinstall the whole system
every 3 months, system fails, viruses, defragmenting errors, now vista is
coming but no one wants to hear from it so linux64-cinelerra64 is stronger
and maybe have a chance, but i can´t say it´s better, or faster for the
user.
