I need a video editor that runs on Linux, so I gotta learn Cinelerra. In
fact, I have to learn it well enough to teach others.

I have it installed in Ubuntu Studio and Opensuse 10.3, but there are
serious problems in Opensuse.

I did a clean install, and used YAST to add mc, Nvu, Quanta, 1394 support
and Realplayer, mp3 and win codec support via this link.

Finally I installed Cinelerra using YAST. But the menu in Cinelerra's
program window is unresponsive. The only way to shut it off is to
Ctl-Alt-Backspace and kill the X-server. Is this a problem anybody else has
seen before?

It occurred to me to start Cinelerra from the command line to see if there
are any error messages I might understand. This is what I saw.

*****************
FileSystem::update /usr/lib/cinelerra/mpeg2enc.plugin: No such file or
directory
MWindow::init_plugins: couldn't open /usr/lib/cinelerra directory
******************

Of course the directories did exist. But starting Cinelerra from the
command line as root got the same message, I I do not think it's a
permission issue.

I would hate to waste all evening starting over again with another clean
install, putting in Cinelerra FIRST and firing it up again between each
thing I add with YAST to see which one breaks it, but do I have any
alternative?
