Now as my new hard disk recorder (Datavideo DN-300) has made "capturing a thing of the past" (records DV & HDV files native, converts and records Y/C and YUV analog video as DV, and mounts as a Firewire disk on Linux), I'm ready to go further on the next step ...

I wish to burn the raw video footages (DV & HDV) on 50GB Blu-ray disks as "tape"-backup and next for archieving NLE edited video masters. Beside this I also wish to create normal DVD and Blu-ray disks as distribution format for normal playback on standalone players.

While Blu-Ray tends to win the fight vs HD-DVD and Sony recently released a PC Blu-Ray player for sub $200, Blu-Ray burners are still quite new, few and pricy. Therefore I think an external, portable Firewire BD burner can be a good idea, if it works in being utilized between several Linux machines (PC and laptop).

What I'm especially interested in currently is to combine the following two products:

LaCie d2 Blu-ray Drive
http://www.lacie.com/no/products/product.htm?pid=10867
Nero Linux 3 burner program
http://www.nero.com/eng/linux3.html

The problem as usual is that LaCie d2 is supported on and bundled with software for Windows and Mac (Linux not mentioned) Nero Linux 3 is specified to support Blu-Ray burning, but I haven't been able to find out if it support Firewire devices like LaCie d2

What do you think?
Is Linux prepared to work with Blu-Ray players and burners, or are especial drivers missing yet?
