One of the strings to translate is the font to use. In this file I see: #: guicast/bcresources.C:44 msgid "-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-11-*" msgstr "-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-11-*" (etc.) which means that you actually don't substitute a different font. The question is, can we assume that on a ru_RU.KOI8-R the above font wildcard will match a koi8-r font, not an iso8859 font? At least on my machine it doesn't (no wonder, I live in iso8859-15 world). I assume you have tested the translation.
