one detail: what about something like
 "...linux / unix / posix operating systems..."?

then we need a headline, like
"a free and open-source video production system for professional editors,
 comparable with avid and final cut".

it would make sense to combine the editor software (or its documentation)
with a bundle of other things that complete the production pipeline,
including gimp, kino, audacity, ffmpeg / mpegtools, spumux/dvdauthor etc.
