Cinelerra performs quite "stable", if you manage to get it setup and /
or build and if you learn what to do and what better not to try. Plus
there is no help within the GUI, so basically it's supposed the user
knows already how to use a Nonlinear Video Editor. Having said that, you
can do quite advanced stuff with Cinelerra, it's incredible powerful.
Currently, there is not any single Application for video editing on
linux which we could call "the definitive video editor" -- there is
no Gimp for video :-)
But the situation got much better than some years ago. To start with,
you could try out the Open Movie Editor, Kino, PiTiVi, ... (what else?)

what is about 'lumiere' project? is there any web page where i could
have a look of what is the status of developement now?
Our goal for Lumiera is to start out with the level of functionality
and power we all know and love at Cinelerra. The goal is not to create
quickly something usable for basic stuff and then to evolve it by time
to eventually reach Cinelerra's level of sophistication in the far
future. For us, Cinelerra contains a wealth of know-how and experiences
(good and bad ones) we build upon.
Lumiera is in the early stages of development and it's obvious we can't
expect anything of interest for an end user this year at least. Come
back next year and have a look if we did achieve anything ;-)
