There has been some discussion lately regarding the Cinelerra CV
website and now seems like a good time to take action. The current
site has served us well. We have lots of well written and maintained
multilingual documentation (much of which is derived from the wiki), a
bug tracking system, an irc log, the website itself and some resources
such as sample video files. What we have at the moment works, although
it does feel a bit disjointed and leaves room for improvement.

Let's have a meeting about this on
irc://irc.freenode.net:6667/cinelerra-web on Sunday 13th July at 16:00
UTC. Everyone is welcome, but if you have experience in web
development/design and especially if you are interested in helping out
please don't be shy. First we need to throw some ideas around to think
about what kind of a website we would like to have. Hopefully, some
people will be interested in helping out so when we know what kind of
skills we have available we can look at options for frameworks etc.

If you are interested in the future of the website but don't have the
time to attend or contribute, please feel free to just comment on the
notes from the discussion afterwards instead of attending.

Some ideas for the meeting:

What do we want to do?

*) Gather build systems and testing/QA?
*) Showcase work created by the community, promote individuals'
expertise and facilitate cooperation on larger projects?
*) Be a "Free Software for Video" portal?

What do we need:

*) documentation/manual for cinelerra, translations of it
*) Issue tracking
*) localisation conveniences, for both the application and the
 documentation
*) A repository for sample clips etc

*) Maybe forums, and a blog.
*) Donation/bounty handling?

*) Source code repository view (with pretty printing)
*) Nightly builds (backend stuff)
*) Automated tests (ditto)

Who is interested and what would you like to do?

Thanks,
Cillian (goibhniu)

Some background information about me:
I am a web developer by trade and am most comfortable with and
interested in Python/Wsgi/Zope systems. Currently there is a mix of
Php/Perl and Python being used on the site, so I am eager to simplify
that and since I know next to nothing about Php or Perl I'm keen to
replace much of it with python based system(s) where that is sensible.
I would certainly have no objection to letting others with experience
of another platform to take it in that direction provided they are
committed to maintain it for the foreseeable future. It would be
fantastic to have a designer on board to focus purely on the visual
impact of the site and to assist with enhancing the functionality and
usability of the site. I would be quite comfortable taking flat mock
ups and creating the html/css and doing browser testing etc, although
that would be another area that some people may like to get involved
in.
