Thanks for the response, Paolo.  I removed everything I could think of
including configs - faac, ffmpeg, cinelerra-generic, related libraries,
etc.  The only local or obsolete packages I have are akiradnews, libdvdcss2,
libdvdcss2-dev, libssl0.9.7, a linux-restricted-modules package, an
nvidia-kernel package, and skype.

Yours is the only repository that's checked in my third-party-sources list,
and I rebooted and then reinstalled cinelerra-generic but am getting the
same original error:

# cinelerra
cinelerra: error while loading shared libraries: libx264.so.54: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
