well, ok, but I think I will still keep regular ubuntu
because I had trouble installing wine on ubuntu studio.

I've also got that artistx version, which has even more
software installed on it, and will just put that on a flash drive since it's hard to install it on a HD. They have a really lame forum though, but I like the OS.

Sure, you don't need it.

Just install and update normal 64bit Ubuntu, add Akirad and Medibuntu repositories, install Cinelerra, qdvdauthor, dvdstyler and w64codecs, then:

sudo apt-get install linux-rt

Then, reboot.
If the video card doesn't work (it can happen with some Nvidia cards with closed drivers) just restart, press ESC at the grub menu, choose the recovery mode, choose the "Fix X" option and reboot normally. Then, install EnvyNG (sudo apt-get install envyng-gtk), run it and choose the automatic Nvidia driver installation. Reboot and it works.

Ok, now you have a system with rt kernel. Now you can install all the music applications you want. There's a huge collection typing:

sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-audio

Now, when you want to use the rt kernel, start the computer normally.
When you want to use the other kernel, press ESC when your computer starts at the GRUB menu and choose the generic kernel.

That's what I do and it works perfectly for me.
