Yeah, for newbies, it's a bit of a messy jungle of apps that don't do
what is needed, and you have different apps for different steps of
the process. Part of the problem is all the diferent formats for
files and things like "Save" not saving the video, but rather saving
the project.
It looks and feel like it's rather amateurish code to them. A big
enhancement would be to get the capture function working in
Cinelerra. It doesn't inspire confidence to say, "Oh that doesn't
work yet."
I remember when I was making a DVD last summer that there was some
real help and support from this group and when it really worked for
me, that was a great experience. Yeah, it would be great to have
everything under one roof so users could capture, edit, render and
burn DVDs all under one interface with an intuitive menu structure.
Then it starts to look attractive.
In the mean time, I think hand-holding is good and directing people
to appropiate documentation is a big help. For me emphasising that
while there is a lot to learn, the up side is that you get to learn
it and the knowledge is power. However I am often motivated by
different things compared with other people. For the general public
I suspect they want things as simple as possible and the computer
does all the work.
