dear list,

as announced earlier we started to run some tests with cinelerra to see if we can also manage big project. here a short account with some questions/suggestions - let us know what you think of...

best,
adnan

most importantly organsing:

- bin structure: can media and clips be organised into bins, and can multiple bins be open at the same time? - can multiple sequences be stored in one entity (or project), or is there a workable way to have multiple sequences open and available? Can one copy and paste between sequences? Or is there any other workaround to edit from one sequence to another (wihtout mix-down)? - Can one define one's own keyboard layout (for shortcuts)? Is there 'go to inpoint', 'go to outpoint' shortcuts?

then editing:

- Also is there an 'overwrite drag and drop' mode? This could be controlled by holding the shift button down maybe? - Can one select multiple clips in 'drag and drop'? Is there a way of securing audio-video synch in 'drag and drop'? - When trimming, is there a way to extend the outgoing and shorten the incoming simultaneously – effectively 'dragging' the edit point along the timeline (and maintaining synch)? - In 'copy and past' mode can there be an 'overwrite paste' in addition to the existing 'insert paste' (so as not to lose the sync along the timeline)? - Is there a warning to show video and audio from the same source going out of synch? - It appears that when I splice in from a source clip (with video and stereo audio) i can only assign audio tracks to tracks 3 and 4 by disarming tracks 1 and 2 – but then when I perform the splice, the audio after the splice point does not get 'bunched up' with the video, so all my audio after the splice point gets out of synch. Is there a workaround for this? Is there another way of assigning 'target tracks' other than arming/disarming?
- Is there a way of 'synch-locking' tracks?
- In 'drag and drop' sometimes it moves audio tracks seperately and sometimes together, what determines this?

& last Suggestions:

- the 'o' shortcut should work form within the resources window (which is where you normally need it). - Could there be a line somewhere in the timeline or compositor window where the source timecode of the clip in that position can be displayed (preferably with an option which selects from which track)? - It seems that by and large the default tendency is for any 'gaps' on the audio tracks to snap shut – this means that in a lot of operations synch is very easily lost. Wouldn't it be safer for the default to be that clips stay in their place on the timeline?
