Laura, thanks for asking, but no. Cinelerra is capable of professional multitrack video and audio editing, but generally only with pre-recorded track data. No live performances.
For recording e.g. dv data from camcorder, use the Kino or dvgrab programs for editing in Cinelerra. Splitting the screen is no problem, however. With live, real-time editing, I have no experience, so I cannot recommend any software. I have heard, though, of "LiVES - Open Source Video Editor for GNU Linux". Go check it out.
