 I think it is some 64-to-32bits compability wrapper feature. 
Some 64-bit applications can use 32-bits plugins and libraries, 
which can be useful for stuff like win32 codecs and proprietary 
browser plugins.  It is probably used by software installed by 
Ubuntu, though it _may_ be an instance of "might come handy".

I don't know, really.  But I sincerely doubt that Cinelerra can 
make good use of it, if any at all.
