Open the session from the command line, eg. "cinelerra /dir/my_file.xml"
If it crashes (Cinelerra is designed to crash "gracefully") just run
"cinelerra" and then Load Backup from the file dialog. And save frequently!

When I open this file next session, I get the media resources back but no
project back until I load the backup.

Shouldn't the xml file load everything?

To save a file (EDL) select File... Save as
When the save dialog opens select .xml as the file type
Use the uppermost part of the dialog window to navigate to the folder
where you want to save the .xml as
Then in the text box, just abve where you selected the file type (xml)
enter the name of the file (without the xml extension)
