Hello Chris,

the intermediate rendered clips from step 6 ought to have 50fps. You import
it into the original (25fps) project. Make sure you'll apply the "Fields to
frames" effect to this imported clip on the whole length (= step 7), i.e.
drag this effect onto the imported clip in the timeline.

Without this effect, Cinelerra will just pick every other frame, which means
dropping half of the frames of the 50fps. Now, because this intermediary
rendered clip has been created with applying the "Frames to Fields" effect
in step 3, every 2nd line in this fields was actually interpolated from
the neighbouring lines. The "Fields to frames" effect from step 7, when
applied properly, will discard exactly these interpolated scanlines and
replace them with the corresponding lines from the other 50fps half image,
which happen to be not interpolated, but from the original footage.
This makes the whole process basically lossless.

I said "basically", because in practice there are two circumstances which
can cause a (small) quality loss:
- - when you use a compressed format for the intermediary clip(s). Note
even MJPEG is slightly compressed. Only raw yuv video is uncompressed.
- - when you apply some filer or other manipulation in the 50fps project,
these effects will work on both the real and the interpolated lines.
In case such an effect smears out or shifts or transports the original
image information in some way, the interpolated data could leak into
  the original scanlines.
According to my experience, both mechanisms can be observed if you look
carefully, but are rather small and negligible.

Cheers
Hermann
