Folks,
I used Cinelerra to edit a tape for someone auditioning for The
Biggest Loser here in the States - if she makes it, I'll let you know
who - and came across a few questions if I may.
The first question has probably been answered a hundred times so
please point me in the right direction; a Google search didn't turn up
any solution to my query. Using Kubuntu 9.10 and the akirad repository
(quad-core with 3GB memory, nVidia card), I installed the cv, sv,
cv-smp, and sv-smp (different installations, not at the same time)
packages but ran into a playback issue. Both the clip viewer and the
compositor would play exactly one frame per second, no more and no
less. I ensured the kernel option shmmax(?) was set correctly, tried
toggling "play every frame" both ways, tried OSS and Alsa, all three
X-server options, toggling "force single processor" both ways, and a
myriad of other preference options, and none of them allowed me to see
the source playback (a .DV file) more than one frame per second.
I finally installed his cinecutie package and that worked. I don't
know what differences there are between the two, but that's the
package I used to finish the audition tape. Playback was flawless.
What have I missed on troubleshooting/fixing playback on the original
packages?
The second question, is there a way, in the clip viewer, to rewind or
advance the timeline less than a second per left/right button press?
With advancing exactly one second per button press, creating in/out
points was a shot in the dark.
Last question: is there a video effect that will time warp, i.e. will
allow me to stretch or shorten (add/drop frames?) a selected portion
in the timeline? In this audition tape, there was one part where the
camera panned around an empty room and I wanted to speed it up.
Thanks!
