you could have "muted" the track with your material (the button with the crossed out loudspeaker). Another possibility is to disable playback for some tracks (that is the green "play" symbol, next to the read "record"-like symbol which is used to "arm" (enable for editing) the track. (Personally, I often mis-click on that play-on/off toggle) h.t.h.
