This commonly happens if the sound file is compressed, e.g. in MP3.
AFAIK, using .wav sound files this problem doesn't occur.
This happens only with .mp3 files with variable bitrate. Cinelerra
can't play them back properly: the playback is correct for the first
seconds (regardless of where it starts) and then gradually becomes
unrelated to time. Seeking is unreliable.
To solve that you can convert to .wav (as Senbee suggests) or, to save
disk space, you can create a table of contents (TOC) file to be loaded
on the timeline instead of the .mp3 file.
To create the TOC file use the following command (adapt it to your
case, giving the full path to the .mp3 file first - myfile.mp3 - and
then the full path to the TOC file to be created - myfile.toc -):
mpeg3toc -v myfile.mp3 myfile.toc
Did you solve your problem with .wav or .toc?
Ciao

HI Raffaella, I converted my files to Wav and all went well. I will
save your post so that I will have it to create a TOC file next time. I
thought I had posted that I was up and running.
I have shown a young lady that lives next door and is the
librairain at the college down the street how to use Cinelerra and she
is doing pretty well. She used single track edditing and after bending
bands around to get camera moves and such. She had a bunch of jumpy
transitions and moves. I showed her 2 track editing where there is room
between the clips to have nice smooth transition in the pictures. She
said she had not seen that in help files. If some mention of that is
not there the addition of that info might help to relieve some
frustration for a beginner.. Good to hear from you and Thanks for
the Help Doug You know you are my hero:-)
